Friendships in the creative world hold a unique significance for me.

They are often forged through shared visions, mutual inspirations, and a quiet understanding of a journey that is both deeply personal and universally resonant. For artists, filmmakers, musicians, writers, and other creative souls, these bonds transcend mere companionship; they involve navigating the often challenging yet exhilarating path of artistic expression together. In my experience, the friendships I've cultivated in this sphere have become pillars of my creative life, serving as sources of growth, resilience, and joy.

One such cherished friend is Wendy Coombes, a talented photographer with whom I've shared a close bond over the past decade. Our paths crossed through a coaching programme, and we've remained connected ever since, not realising at the time how much we would collaborate and learn from each other. Wendy imparted valuable marketing insights and captured many beautiful profile images of myself—some of which you may have seen multiple times. Our photo sessions have always been delightful, as she creates a relaxed atmosphere, and we've enjoyed numerous early-morning beach shoots together.

Recently, Wendy made the courageous decision to pursue photography full-time. Her work is a testament to her passion and skill, with collections such as 'Camargue,' 'Untamed,' 'Forever Summer,' and 'Baroque' showcasing her versatility and artistic vision. These collections feature equine fine art, floral still life images, and more, each piece reflecting her unique perspective and dedication to her craft. Her prints are available on her website, where you can explore and appreciate her inspiring creations.

Wendy and I meet once a month at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, relishing our membership and the opportunity to be surrounded by beloved and admired works of art. Our conversations are rich and varied, spanning topics from the profound to the whimsical, as we explore our ideas, dreams, and influences. These dialogues often feel like journeys of discovery, leaving us with fresh insights, perspectives, and creative energy. I depart from our shared time feeling fulfilled and inspired, often with a list of new ideas and practical steps to pursue.

The creative journey is far from easy, often filled with self-doubt, criticism, and the constant struggle to find balance and meaning in our work. During these times, friends like Wendy have been invaluable, offering support and understanding. I've come to realise that an artist's journey isn't only about the work we produce; it's equally about the connections we make along the way. Just as my friendships within the creative community are cherished, my connection to each of you, as I share this, is just as vital. Together, we build a community that supports, inspires, and enriches the creative path.

With lots of love,

Kirana xx
