Artist Residency in France
A few weeks ago, something very exciting happened—after nearly ten years of applying for artist residencies in different countries, I’ve finally been accepted into one in the South of France. It sounds absolutely beautiful, and I still can’t quite believe it’s real.
When I received the email, I almost didn’t trust it. I tried to keep cool, just in case it wasn’t true—almost as if I could jinx it by feeling too happy! But slowly, the excitement is winning over, and I could easily break into a skip. I am so incredibly grateful for this opportunity.
What makes this even more special is that I already had my second exhibition for the year planned for October, long before I knew about this perfect timing. The works I create during my time in the small village of Siran will be the pieces I exhibit later in the year—something I never could have planned, but it feels like it was meant to be.
For me, an artist residency is one of the greatest gifts I could give myself—uninterrupted time and space to create, surrounded by new landscapes, colours, and sensations. I know from experience that new surroundings bring new ways of seeing, and that always finds its way into my work. Different scents in the air, a new quality of light—these small things shift something inside and lead to fresh colour palettes, new forms, and unexpected creative directions.
What makes this even more exciting is that I won’t be alone—there will be other artists in residency at the same time. Some may be musicians, writers, photographers, or printmakers. Being surrounded by a community of creators, each immersed in their own process, is incredibly inspiring.
This will be a time of deep creation, of living and breathing art in a way that feels so rare in daily life. I can’t wait to share this experience with you.
With lots of love,
Kirana xx
